Pomodoro: Tiny Yet Terrific!

A friend and I made plans to grab a glass of wine after work, so we left the office and headed straight for Boston’s North End. We wandered down a few side streets, stopped into a couple cute boutiques we found along the way, and ended up on Hanover Street. We wanted to try a place neither of us had been before, so we decided on Pomodoro, the first restaurant we saw.

We stepped inside and were shocked to see how small the restaurant was. We arrived before the dinner rush and we able to snag side by side seats at an adorable window bar overlooking Hanover Street–perfect for people watching! The waitress promptly brought over a basket of freshly-baked rolls and dipping oil with olives. We ordered a bottle of Montepulciano and a calamari appetizer. The food was top-notch, and I wished we had been able to stay for dinner.

To our surprise, the waitress brought over a complimentary tiramisu, which we demolished in thirty seconds flat. Absolutely delicious. The prices were reasonable for the pricy North End area, the food was delicious, the menu had lots of authentic  choices, and we had a great time enjoying the lovely atmosphere complete with candles and soft lighting. It would be a fantastic place to go on a date, which I will keep in mind for future reference!

Things to note: Pomodoro is a cash-only restaurant, which we weren’t aware of until we got the check. Fortunately, there’s an ATM next door, but I’ll definitely remember to bring cash next time. The place is tiny and fills up really quickly. People were lined up outside waiting for tables. It might be useful to make reservations or at least plan to spend some time waiting for a table before dinner.
